Kodaikanal one of the most famous hill stations in India, is
located 120 Kms from Madurai, in Tamil Nadu. Kodaikanal is
situated at a height of around 2,133 metre and covers an
area of 21.45 Sq Kms. Set amidst the curves of the green
Pali hills, the hillresort mesmerizes the tourists. With its
massive rocks, wooded slopes,beautiful waterfalls and a

The fruits and plums of the hill station are famous
for their freshness and taste. The hill station is also
known for unique flowering plant Kurunji (Strobilanthus
Kunthanus), that blossoms once in 12 years.The hill town is
equally renowned for its educational institutions of
international standard. The Summer Festival takes place
every year inKodaikanal, and they are organized to welcome
the visitors also. Cultural programs, adventure sports, boat
races, flower and fruit shows are organized during the

Attractions :
Kodaikanal Trekking - The hill station offers
small-time trekking. One can take short treks and hikes
to nearby tourist spots as well to local viewpoints.
Overnight treks are also available, where one can spend
a night at a local village.
Kodaikanal Lake - The lake is a magnificentman-made
lake, spreads over an area of 16 acres. The star shaped
lake setamidst the lush green surrounding. The boat club
is another attraction here,which offers several pleasure
and racing holiday trips. Boats like T.T.D.C, Kodai
boats, Carlton boats are available for hire.
Shenbaganur Museum - The museum is located at a
distance of 5 Kms from the Kodaikanal lake. The museum
houses more than 300 species of orchids and a wide
collection of birds. The museum is maintained by Sacred
Heart College.
Pillar Rocks -
In the hill station one can see three massive boulders
standing vertically side-by-side. The 122 metres highrocks
provides a breathtaking view of surroundings.
Coaker's Walk - Coaker's Walk is situated justone
Kilometre from the Kodaikanal lake. Coaker's Walk got its
name from Lt.Coaker who prepared the map of Kodai. It runs
along a steep slope on the southern side of the Kodaikanal.
It offers the best views of the plains.
Telescope Houses - Two telescope Houses have been
put up at Kodaikanal, to enable the visitors to have the
stunning view of the valley and the nearby towns.
Kurinji Andavar Temple - The temple dedicated to
Lord Murugan, lies at a distance of 3.2 Kms from the lake.
From this temple,one can get a view of the northern plains
and Palani Hills.
Bear Shola Falls - The water fall located at a
distance of 1.6 Kms from the Kodaikanal lake, is an ideal
picnic spot. The picnic spot has the picturesque
surroundings.

Berijam lake -
Located at a distance of 21 Kms
from Kodaikanal, the lake is one among the beautiful
lakes of South India.Spread over an area of 24 hectares,
the lake is star shaped and is popular for its fresh
water. The drinking water from the lake is supplied to
Periakalam town. The lake offers a beautiful view of the
nearby areas. On the eastern side of the lake a park is
situated called as the Bryant Park,the park is famous
for its flowers, hybrids and rafts etc. Several kinds of
flowers can be seen in a glass house. The annual
horticultural show is held in May.
Silver Cascade Waterfall - The waterfall, 8 Kms
from Kodaikanal is located on the Ghat road. The
overflow water of Kodai Lake comes down hereas 180 feet
high water falls.
Dolphin's Nose -
Located at a distance of 8 kms from the Kodaikanal lake, the
flat protruding rock, offers breathtaking views of the
valley.
Periyakulam - The town situated around 21 km from
Kodaikanal is a favourite picnic spot.
Accessibility :
Kodaikanal hill station is not directly connected with Air
and Rail routes. The Hill station is only connected through
good motorable roads.
By Air - The nearest airport is Madurai airport (120
Kms) which is connected with major airports of the country.
By Rail - The nearest railway stations from the hill
stations are the Kodai Road Railway Station (80 Kms) and the
Palani Railway Station (64 Kms).
By Road - Kodaikanal is connected by road with
Madurai(120 Kms), Chennai (520 Kms), Ooty (264 Kms), Trichy
(197 Kms), Periyar (119 Kms),Coimbatore (138 Kms) and Kumili
(160 Kms). Regular busservices are available from Madurai,
Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli,
Kumuli (Thekkady) and Coimbatore. Taxis and Vansare
