Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is the fifth
largest city in India. Founded by Mohammad Quli Qutub Shahi,
the Sultan of Golconda, in 1591, the city covers an area of
726.84 Sq Kms. Hyderabad is renowned for its rich history,
art, jewellery, culture, poetry and architecture. Hyderabad
is the place where Hindus and Muslims have beenco-existing
for many centuries. One of the most developed cities in
India, Hyderabad is the emerging IT and Biotech hub of
India. Hyderabad has now acquired the status of a 'Cyber
city'. The city is located in the centre of Andhra Pradesh
falls in Telengana region. Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and English
are the main languages spoken in the city. The ancient city

The Charminar and Makkah Mosque are landmark of the old city.
The old city lies on the Southern bank of theriver, but the
city has grown on both the banks of the river over the
centuries. Today, Hyderabad and its twin city Secunderabad
are separated by Hussain Sagar, an artificial lake.
Hyderabad has been the meeting place of different cultures
and traditions of North and South India. Lungi, Sherwani,
Pyjama and Kurta is the favourite dress of males, while
women like Saree or Shalwar Qameez. Muslim women wear Burqa
(veil) or the Hijab. Hyderabadi cuisine is a mixture of
Mughal influences with elements of Teleangana cuisine.
Hyderabadi Biryani, Chakna, Baghare Baygan, Khubani Ka Mitha,
Double Ka Mitha, Halim, Rice, Idly and Dosa are some of the
favourite dishesof the city.

Attractions in Hyderabad :
Charminar -
Situated amidst the crowded bazaars
(markets), Charminar was built by Sultan Mohammed Quli
Qutub Shahi, in 1591. The world famous monument is the
landmark of the city and got its name from Char (four)
Minar (towers). The galleries and arches of Charminar
are major attraction for the tourists. Sultan built this
monument, to commemorate theend of the dreaded epidemic
plaque in the city. The 56 metre (185 feet)
highstructure, has four minaret (towers), excellent
balconies and a small mosque.
Golconda Fort -
The magnificent monument lies on the Western side of
Hyderabad city. The impressive fort describes the 400
year of the rich cultural heritage of the city. In
additon it also tells the story of royalty, passion and
bravery. The massive fort built in granite, spreads over
5 Kms and it has 8 huge gateways and 15ft to 18 ft high
walls. The fort houses the ruins of palaces, assembly
halls, stables, barracks andarsenal. Golconda was a
famous center for diamonds, the world famous Kohinoor
diamond originally belonged to Golconda. The timing of
visiting the fort is 7.00 am to 8.00 pm daily. Every
evening the sound and light show take place in the fort.
Falaknuma Palace and Purani Haveli - The palace and
Purani Haveli are the major attractions for the lovers
of antiques, precious artifacts and architecture.
Falaknuma Palace was the home of the last Nizam and has
the collection of the most valuable art objects,
tapestries and carpets. In addition the palace has the
largest collection of diamonds.
Mecca Masjid - Situated close to Charminar, Mecca
Masjid is one of the largest mosques in the world. The
construction of the mosque was begun by Abdullah Qutub
Shahi in 1617, but was completed by Mughal Emperor,
Aurangzeb in 1693. The grand mosque can accommodate
nearly ten thousand men at prayer.
Hussain Sagar Lake - The artificial lake lies
between Hyderabad and its twin city Secundarabad. The
lake offers the breath taking views of the surroundings
and Naubat Pahar Hill, crowned by Birla temple. In the
middle of the lake a massive statue of Buddha (17.5
metre high) stands. One can enjoy boating here by paying
the reasonable price.
Birla Madir (Venkateswara Temple) - The white marble
- carved temple is built by Birla Foundation. One can visit
the temple 7.00 am to 12.00 and from 3.00 pm to 9.00 pm
daily.
Birla Planetarium - The Planetarium is situated on
top of Naubat Pahar Hill. The timings of the shows are 11.30
am, 4.00 pm, 6.00 pm from Monday to Saturday and 11.00 am,
3.45 pm and 6 pm on Sunday. The Planetarium remain closed on
the last Tuesday of the month. The Admission fee is around
Rs.10.00.
Qutub Shahi Tombs - Situated outside the Golconda
Fort, these seven tombs contain the remains of the rulers of
the Qutub Shahikingdom.
Nehru Zoological Park - The zoo set in a scenic
location, houses a large number of animals. The lion safari
and a toy-train that goes around the zoo attracts the kids.
Timings are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily except on Mondays.
NTR Gardens - The Gardens situated near Hussain Sagar
Lake is major attraction for tourist. A memorial of N T Rama
Rao lies adjacent to the gardens.
Excursions :
Ramoji Film City - Located at a distance of 35
Kms from Hyderabad City, It is one of the biggest film
production centre in the world. The film city spread
over an area of more than 1000 acres.
Osman Sagar -
Osman sagar is situated 20 Kms away
from the Hyderabad city centre. Popularly known as 'Gandipet',
the place is a famous picnic spot , the well- maintained
gardens add more charm to the place.
Shilparamam -
Located at a distance of 14 Kms from Hyderabad city centre,
Shilparamam is a crafts village, at Madhapur. The village is
situated amidst rocks, waterfalls and beautiful lawns.
